The Mobile Key in Keymaster

The Mobile Key in Keymaster makes storing a key on your mobile device (and backing it up) simple, safe, and easy

There are two types of Mobile Keys in Keymaster:

- A "standalone" mobile key that be used by itself to sign and send transactions

- A "multisig" mobile key that is part of your multisig setup, and used as one of the keys needed to sign and send transactions

The standalone mobile key is standard with all membership levels, and should be used for storing smaller amounts of bitcoin to use "on-the-go." We don't recommend storing a lot of bitcoin on the standalone mobile key. Larger amounts of bitcoin should be stored on a multisignature setup for added layers of security.

The standalone mobile key is the same key that's used to store and send bitcoin from your BTC key in Sats App

The multisig mobile key is part of your multisig keyset in Keymaster. It's one of keys you need to move funds. We offer a 2 of 3 multisig setup for Gold members, and a 3 of 5 multisig setup for Platinum and Diamond members.

We do allow advanced users the option to replace the mobile key with a second Hardware Device Key if desired.

The mobile key is stored within the secure enclave of your phone, and backed up to a cloud service as detailed in our Mobile Key overview. At no point does Casa ever have access to your Mobile Key.

If you're using an iPhone, the Mobile Key is backed up in your Apple account.

If you're using and Android phone, the Mobile Key is backed up in your Google account.

In order for the Mobile Key to be automatically backed up, you need to be signed into Apple (if you're using an iPhone) or Google (if you're using an Android phone) in the system settings of your phone.

If you ever lose or phone or get a new phone, we have a guide on how to restore Keymaster on a new phone.

The backup is stored in the cloud encrypted, so even if your Apple or Google account was compromised, your key would be safe

You set up your Mobile Key, simply tap the Mobile Key icon in Keymaster and choose "Setup Mobile Key." Follow the instructions to set up and back up your Mobile Key. Here's what that looks like:

Once your Mobile Key is set up, it can be immediately used in Keymaster. Periodically (at least 4 times per year), we recommend doing a quick Health Check on the mobile key, to make sure it's on your device and backed up in the cloud.
