6. Activate your 5-key vault

This article details how to activate your 5-key vault for bitcoin (BTC) or ethereum (ETH).

Download and log into your Casa app on your iOS or Android mobile device to begin setup.

In your 5-key Casa vault, three of your keys are hardware keys. Note that not all of the hardware key types we support for BTC are compatible with ETH. Keep this in mind if you plan to set up an ETH vault. See: Supported platforms and hardware device firmware for more info.

It is possible to use the same hardware device for both your BTC and ETH vaults, and long as the device is compatible.

Once logged in, accept the Terms of Service and tap "Set up" or "Connect" in the center of the vault you'd like to connect to view the list of five keys that will build your multisig keyset.

For ETH vaults, first we need to choose a relay.

Setting up your keys

Tap "Set Up Mobile Key" to get started. This will generate a new private key on your phone's secure enclave, encrypt it and back it up to your cloud drive (iCloud for iOS and Google Drive for Android) and share the associated public key with Casa.

Tap "Set Up Home Key" to add the second key. This will connect your first hardware device to your keyset.

Tap "Send Email" in the app, then open the email on your desktop or laptop computer and connect the hardware device. Follow the instructions in the email and click the link to export the public keys, connecting this device to your account:

  • Use Chrome as our recommended browser
  • If you are connecting a Trezor, leave Trezor Suite open on your computer.
  • If you are connecting a Ledger, close Ledger Live on your computer.

During the process of setting up your Recovery Key, you'll set a series of three security questions and answers. The answers to the security questions should be something that only you know, but something you'll be able to remember. We recommend storing these answers in a password manager.

If you ever need to use the Casa Recovery Key, you'll need to answer all of these questions exactly as they were written during this setup process, including capitalization and punctuation.

That's it! You have now set up your 5-key vault!
