Enabling Tor

We're glad you've decided to turn on Tor for your Casa node! Your Casa Node, coupled with Tor, is your personal, unstoppable gateway to the sovereign networks of the future

While Tor is enabled by default on the Casa Node 2, instructions for enabling Tor on the Casa Node 1 can be found below.

You can learn more about what Tor is here.

Enabling Tor connections on your Casa Node not only increases your privacy, but it also allows you to connect to your node while away from your home network.

Here's a quick video tutorial on enabling Tor for your Casa Node:

If you'd prefer written instructions, we've got you covered!

To enable Tor on your Casa Node:

1. Click on the Connections tab.

2. Click "Enable Bitcoin Tor Connections," as shown below.

When you first enable Tor, it's very important that you not do anything else with your node until you see that the Tor connection is enabled! This is because the bitcoin node restarts in the background once you choose to enable the connection. Clicking out of that window or performing other actions on your node may interrupt this process.

Note that the following operation can sometimes take 10 minutes or more!

The button will show solid blue when the process is complete.

3. Once bitcoin Tor connections are enabling, do the same thing for Lightning. Click "Enable Lightning Tor Connections," as shown below.

Once again - it's very important that you not do anything else with your node until you see that the Tor connection is enabled! This is because in this case, LND restarts in the background once you choose to enable the Tor connection for Lightning. Clicking out of that window or performing other actions on your node may interrupt this process.

This operation may also take 10 minutes or more.

The button will show solid blue when the process is complete.

If you turn on Lightning Tor, you'll have a new connection code shown on this page, which you should now use for letting others connect to you. You don't need to worry about your existing channels closing; they will switch over automatically.

Congrats, you've enabled Tor!

You'll notice that you now have a "Sats App and Tor Dashboard Address."

That address is very important. It allows you to connect to your node's dashboard while away from your home network. To connect to your node while off your LAN (Local Area Network), just copy that connection address and paste it into the search bar of a dedicated Tor browser.
